NGO moves SC against 'toxic' ship SS Norway

12 May 2006 – An NGO on Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking to restrain ocean liner SS Norway, allegedly laden with asbestos and other toxic material, from entering Indian waters. The ship is heading for dismantling at Alang in Gujarat. A bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat asked the high-powered expert committee, constituted at the time of the Clemenceau controversy, to examine SS Norway and submit its report in July.
