Most Indians don't want toxic French ship in India

Seventy percent of Indians are against allowing an asbestos-laden decommissioned French warship to be broken up in India, according to a survey commissioned by rights group Greenpeace.
“Seventy percent people feel that the Indian government should not allow the Clemenceau into India because it has hazardous substances including asbestos,” the survey released by Greenpeace late on Saturday said.
Greenpeace commissioned Indian research agency Hansa Research Group for the study, which questioned 983 people, including government officials, private sector executives and students at top universities in 10 cities.
India’s Supreme Court is to decide Monday on whether to allow the vessel into Indian waters, after environmental groups claimed that asbestos on the ship will jeopardise the health of shipyard workers and harm the environment.
