One lorry with illegal waste returns to Germany

5 February 2006 (USIT NAD LABEM/DUBI) – One lorry carrying illegal waste returned to Germany via the Cinovec Czech-German border crossing tonight, north Bohemian customs spokesman Jiri Nejedly said.
North Bohemian customs officers uncovered four German lorries with German waste in the large-scale dairy farm in Libceves, north Bohemia, in early January.
"The remaining three lorries will return (to Germany) as soon as all formalities are cleared with the relevant German body," Nejedly said.
He added this could be in end-February or early March.
The Czech Environment Ministry says the waste comes from a German company based in Halle.
German authorities in Halle started to check the German company Dux that figures on the customs declarations which the drivers carrying community waste declared as plastics to the Czech Republic produced. Dux lawyers however dismiss the assertion.
The Czech Environment Inspection (CIZP) also found out a large quantity of waste deposited in Libceves silage pits and storing spaces.
CIZP has dealt with a similar case in the Liberec, north Bohemia, area too. It fined two Czech firms with 300,000 and 250,000 crowns respectively for having stored a huge quantity of waste imported from Germany and ordered them to remove it.
Environmentalists say that the import of waste from Germany is lucrative. Waste disposal in Germany is very expensive.
