Wallstrom Fans Flames of UK Ship Scrapping Row

14 October 2003 – EU environment commissioner Margot Wallstrom has dramatically escalated a British row over imports of old US warships for scrapping by publicly opposing the deal.
During a visit to Britain on Monday, Ms Wallstrom questioned the legal basis for the trade, said the ships should be kept in America, and said she would take up the issue with both governments. UK environmental groups have fiercely opposed the imports.
