CUSTOMS PROBE INTO IMPORT OF HAZARDOUS WASTE OIL

NEW DELHI, India, 24 November 2000 -- The Customs Department has recommended a internal enquiry after the Greenpeace alleged that 160 consignments of hazardous waste oil was imported against the law from West Asia via Nava Sheva port by 17 Indian firms. It also gave the list of those firms and also other details involved. The consignment in question was imported under camouflaged labels showing that they contained the permissible furnace oil.
